Durham Region will be washing the Regional bridges in all eight area municipalities from July 20 to approximately the end of August. Lane restrictions may apply.

A new report shows that investing in public housing helps grow the economy and improves people’s health and quality of life across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). The Public Housing Dividend Report explains how public housing creates stronger, more resilient communities. It uses Canadian data and modelling to show how different funding choices affect both economic and social outcomes.

The Durham Region Emancipation Day celebration is on August 5, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Ed Broadbent Park in Oshawa.

This free, family friendly event recognizes Emancipation Day in Canada with a vendor market, an African-themed fashion show, live performances, food vendors and other activities.

The Region of Durham reminds residents to keep the health and safety of waste collection workers in mind when they set out their waste for curbside collection. Several of our waste collection workers have been injured in recent weeks due to broken glass, broken porcelain and medical sharps. Residents can prevent injuries to waste collection workers by disposing of sharp items properly.

Lane restrictions will be in place on Rossland Road West between Des Newman Boulevard and McQuay Boulevard from July 13 to August 30 to support road improvements and turn-lane modifications. One lane in each direction will remain open throughout construction. Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the work zone and watch for crews. Weather conditions may affect the schedule.

Durham Region is mourning the loss of a Durham Regional Police Service Constable-in-Training who lost their life in a tragic collision while travelling to the Ontario Police College. Flags at all Regional facilities have been lowered to half-mast in their honour, and our thoughts remain with the second Constable-in-Training who sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

Lane restrictions for road rehabilitation work will be in place starting the week of July 6 until August 31 on Regional Road 57 in Scugog, from 100 metres northeast of Scugog Point Road to one kilometre east of St. Christopher’s Beach Road, and from 300 metres east of View Lake Road to the Durham/Kawartha boundary line.

Upcoming road closure from July 13 to October 7 on Zephyr Road, between Concession Road 3 and Concession Road 4, in the Township of Uxbridge for road reconstruction work.

Lane closure until November on Farewell Street, from Bloor Street East to Wentworth Street East, in Oshawa for road reconstruction work. Southbound traffic is permitted through this section, while northbound traffic is being detoured. Businesses will remain open.
