Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and we are inviting students enrolled in Grades 5 and 10 to learn more about the region we call home by becoming Chair for a Day.
Who: Students enrolled in Grade 5 and students who have taken, or are currently enrolled in, Grade 10 Civics and Careers classes. Students must live in Durham Region and have written consent from a parent or legal guardian to enter.

Upcoming closure on North Street in Clarington

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department advises residents of a complete road closure on North Street (Regional Road 17) in Newcastle in the Municipality of Clarington.
When: The work will begin on May 21 and is expected to be complete by September 30, weather permitting.
Where: Full road closure on North Street, from Grady Drive to 970 metres north of Grady Drive in Newcastle.

As part of Durham Vision Zero, Durham Region is making bicycle crossings easier and safer for cyclists, drivers and pedestrians by installing crossrides along multi-use path routes at intersections throughout the region.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of an upcoming road closure on Mary Street in the City of Oshawa.
When: The week of May 13 to September 2025. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.
Where: Mary Street, from Rossland Road (Regional Road 28) to 150 metres north of Robert Street, in Oshawa.

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department is encouraging all area residents and businesses located within 10 kilometres of the Pickering or Darlington nuclear generating stations to ensure they have a supply of potassium iodide (KI) tablets. This recommendation is also aimed at pregnant and breastfeeding individuals, and parents of infants, children and adolescents as KI is both safe and effective for these groups.
