The Regional Municipality of Durham recognizes the presence of structural, institutional and interpersonal anti-Black racism. We condemn all forms of systems of oppression which deny individuals the right to equitable treatment, access and fairness. Building safe and healthy communities where everyone feels valued and is treated with dignity and respect is our priority.
We continue to believe that it is possible to engage our employees and community in conversations about equity, anti-racism and racial discrimination through open, respectful, factual dialogue. This work can only be done when we listen to the voices of Black, Indigenous and racialized communities as we strive to be strong and trustworthy allies.
The Durham Region Anti-Racism Taskforce is part of the Region's commitment to develop and implement an Anti-Racism Framework to ensure a healthy workplace and to address racism within the communities the Region serves.
