COVID-19 Vaccination Policy |
To help provide protection and minimize the transmission of COVID-19 within the workplace and in the community, all new hires, students and volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated (i.e. two doses) and submit proof of being fully vaccinated in the form of their QR Code with their signed offer of employment. Vaccination requirements are subject to bona fide medical and human rights exemptions pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), and sufficient proof of exemption, as determined by the Region, will be required.
Please note, all staff within the Long-Term Care homes are required to also have received their booster to be deemed be fully vaccinated.
When do I have to provide my QR Code? |
You will be required to submit your QR code (vaccination receipts will not be accepted) at the same time as you provide your signed offer letter and all other on-boarding documentation.
Timelines applicable to sign-back of offers of employment will not be extended for candidates to achieve compliance with the policy.
Failure to provide the QR code or obtain a medical, religious, or other human rights exemption under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) will result in your offer of employment being rescinded. |
Can I get vaccinated after receiving an offer? |
Being vaccinated or having a bona fide medical and human rights exemptions pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) is a requirement for all new employees (or re-hires) of the Region of Durham and therefore, if you do not comply with that requirement, any offer of employment made will be rescinded. |
How do I get a medical exemption? |
If you qualify for a medical exemption, you are strongly encouraged to complete that process through your public health unit as soon as possible so that a QR Code can be issued to you.
There are very few contraindications to available COVID-19 vaccination that would qualify as medical exemptions. More information is available on the Government of Ontario site.
Your physician will submit your request electronically to your local public health unit. Once submitted and approved, COVaxON will be updated with the medical exemption information. You can then download your certificate and QR code indicating that you have a medical exemption.
This process must be complete at the time of offer acceptance; therefore you are encouraged to initiate the process immediately.
|
What is the process for a non-medical exemption? |
If you are not vaccinated due to a religious or other non-medical grounds covered by the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), you will be required to complete a form for internal review. This non-medical exemption request may delay your start date. Should review of your submission not meet the requirements for exemption, your offer will be rescinded as you will not be able to comply with the policy. |
