How to apply
Here are some frequently asked questions about the application process.
Can I submit a cover letter? |
Yes. Your cover letter must be in the same document as your resume. Our system will only let you upload one attachment. Your cover letter should be the first page of the document, and your resume should follow. Once you upload the document, you won't be able to edit it. |
How do I know that my application has been received? Can I track the status of my application? |
Once your application has been successfully submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. You can view your status under the 'My Activities' page on our recruitment portal. The status shows as 'Submitted' once your application has been uploaded or copied successfully. Due to the volume of applications we receive, only candidates selected to participate in the competition process will be contacted directly. |
How can I find out about new employment opportunities? |
The 'Job Search' section of our recruitment portal allows you to enter keywords or search criteria for jobs that interest you. You can save your criteria with the 'Save Search' button. When you save it, select the 'Notify me when new jobs meet my criteria' checkbox and enter your email address. The system searches our active job postings daily, and will send you an email with any new postings that meet your criteria. |
How can I change my password or update my contact information? |
Your password and contact information can be updated on our recruitment portal's 'My Account Information' page. |
How do I deactivate my account? |
You cannot deactivate your account. The system will automatically deactivate your account if it has not been actively used within 12 months. |
Why is my user name and password (account) no longer recognized in the system? |
If you have not signed in to our recruitment portal in the last year, your profile may have been removed. You will not receive an email notification about the removal. In order to apply to any future job postings, you will have to create a new account. |
Who do I contact if I'm having problems with the recruitment portal? |
Please email RecruitingHelp@durham.ca. We try to answer emails within 24 hours during our regular business hours from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. |

How do I request an accommodation? |
You may request accommodation at any point during the recruitment and selection process by contacting our talent acquisition team directly by email at RecruitingHelp@durham.ca. The Region will fairly, thoroughly, and effectively respond to the accommodation request and will fully explore accommodation options applying the principles of dignity, individualization, inclusion, and full participation. In some cases, we may request supporting documentation/information to ensure that we provide you with the most appropriate accommodation. Requests for accommodation may involve disclosing sensitive information. The information provided will be treated as confidential and shared only as needed to evaluate the accommodation request and to implement the accommodation. The request for accommodation during the competition process will not negatively affect the evaluation process, and your need for accommodation will not be considered when making a hiring decision. |

Accommodation needs can vary widely so each accommodation request will be assessed on a case-by-case basis to meet individual needs and requirements of each circumstance. General reasonable accommodation during the hiring process may include, but is not limited to, the following:
