Region of Durham Paramedic Services responds to medical emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- We utilize the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) which prioritizes the most urgent 911 calls, Paramedic Services will ensure that Durham Region residents receive the right care at the right time.
- Durham Region Paramedic Services operates ambulances from 12 strategically located stations across the region, ensuring rapid response to emergency calls.
- Our team is comprised of both primary and advanced care paramedics, with some members specially trained to operate in high-risk situations and specialized response units.

Tactical Paramedic Unit The Region of Durham Paramedic Services Tactical Paramedic Unit plays a critical role in supporting the Durham Regional Police Tactical Support Unit in priority calls. These calls encompass warrant services, incidents involving armed or barricaded individuals, mental health crises, and situations with potential for violence. Tactical paramedics are required to engage in rigorous training, which includes rappelling, bomb suit removal, boat safety, weapon safety, and the maintenance of fitness standards. When not engaged in tactical operations they respond to 911 calls within the region. Public Safety Unit The Region of Durham Paramedic Services Public Safety Unit is a specialized team that provides medical support during high-risk public events, working closely with Durham Regional Police. Equipped with protective gear, paramedics operate in volatile environments, protests and large gatherings, delivering immediate care to the public and first responders when traditional paramedic access may be delayed. Peer Support Team The Peer Support Team is a volunteer group of paramedics with lived experience who support colleagues, reduce mental health stigma, and provide resources. Since 2022, they’ve partnered with Ontario Shores for clinical oversight, with clinical leads offering expert guidance, training, evaluations, and system navigation. |
