Know Before You Throw

Blue box

Here are some common items you can put in the blue box:

• Aluminum cans, foil, and trays
• Glass bottles and jars
• Plastic bottles
• Plastic egg cartons, and plastic fruit and vegetable containers
• Plastic takeout containers
• Boxboard and cardboard
• Newspapers, magazines, junk mail and envelopes
• Soft-covered books

Be sure to put containers in one blue box and paper items in another.

Plastic bags do not go in the blue box. Recycle plastic bags at participating stores.

Green bin

Here are some common items you can put in the green bin:

• Food waste
• Paper towels and napkins
• Paper egg cartons and drink trays
• Hair, pet fur, and feathers
• Dryer lint
• Houseplants
• Sawdust and wood shavings

Do not put these items into the green bin:

• Baby wipes and diapers
• Feminine hygiene products
• Aluminum foil
• Plastic bags and plastic wrap
• Pet waste
• Coffee cups

Only line your green bins with certified compostable liners.

Garbage

Here are some common items you can put in the garbage:

• Coffee pods and coffee cups
• Diapers, wipes, and feminine hygiene products
• Pet waste
• Plastic bags, plates, cups, and cutlery
• Snack bags and wrappers
• Toys
