New in June: Cornerstone has officially opened their new building in Oshawa on Bloor Street, welcoming 21 new tenants who were previously experiencing homelessness. New tenants were able to have a tour of their new home and will be moving in over the nextension few weeks. This is an amazing accomplishment by Cornerstone and a milestone for our community! These 21 move-ins will significantly contribute to our overall goal of ending homelessness in Durham Region
Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the challenging housing market, Durham’s Homelessness Support System has continued to focus on finding housing solutions for people experiencing homelessness. Since the beginning of 2021, Community Partners have secured housing for over 75 people who were experiencing homelessness (41 of whom were experiencing chronic homelessness). They have also provided supports and services for over 620 people at-risk of homelessness. Durham’s Homelessness Support System is on track to add more than 100 more spaces in 2021. Although we might not always have the resources, Durham’s Homelessness Support System has the resourcefulness to keep the momentum going – Alyxandra, Homelessness Programs Coordinator
