You need a permit for construction, moving an oversized load, building or changing an entrance, holding a special event, filming or installing a banner on a Regional road.
Permit types
There are six types of permits. You need a permit for:
- Road use such as construction or utility work.
- Movement of oversized loads such as a house or large equipment/items.
- Building or modifying an entrance.
- Special events such as parades, marathons or community events.
- Filming.
- Banner installations
Apply for a permit
We have a new online permit application. Use it to apply for a permit and check your permit approval status.
Entrance permits require a special application at this time and can be accessed by contacting your local depot or email us at entrancepermits@durham.ca. Road occupancy permits require at least five business days to process. Oversized load permits require at least ten business days to process.

Our Film Office manages filming permits. You may have to buy a road occupancy permit as part of your film permit application. The Film Office will tell you about any needs as they work on your application. |
