Health Programs and Services

The Health Department offers resources and supports to help people living in Durham Region make healthy living choices for them, their families and their community.

 Healthy Babies Healthy Children Program
Healthy Babies Healthy Children Program - Supports for eligible expectant parents or those raising children up to the age of school on connecting with your baby and taking care of yourself and your child.
 Infant Child Development Program
Infant Child Development Program - Supports for families who have concerns about their child's development by providing early intervention services for children between the ages of birth to school entry. 
 Need support to quit smoking?
Using tobacco can be harmful to your health. We offer resources to help people quit smoking and stay smoke-free. STOP on the Net is a program that offers free nicotine replacement therapy for 10 weeks to adults 18 years and older. Find help with our Are You Thinking of Quitting Smoking? resource.
 Low-cost rabies clinics
Rabies low-cost clinics occur throughout the year.  The clinics are organized by a local veterinarian or animal services. Clinic dates and information can be found at Rabies - Region of Durham.
 Free prenatal, newborn and breastfeeding classes

Find free online prenatal, newborn and breastfeeding classes - your easy guide to pregnancy and newborn care through InJoy Health Education. Our free online classes cover five topics – pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, understanding your newborn and local community supports. These classes are for everyone and can be taken at your own pace. SMILE prenatal classes are free prenatal classes for expectant parents who meet the eligibility criteria. SMILE prenatal classes are held in-person or virtually, taught by a public health nurse. For more information, visit Pregnancy - Region of Durham.

Sexual Health Clinics are committed to providing inclusive, non-judgmental, safe and confidential services. Talk to a nurse about your sexual health and gain access to counseling, testing and treatment. For more information, visit Sexual Health and Clinic - Region of Durham.

What is a Community Health Centre?

Community Health Centres (CHCs) are non-profit organizations that deliver primary healthcare in combination with health promotion and illness prevention services. There are two Community Health Centres located in Durham Region.

Durham Community Health Centre (formerly Carea)

Durham Community Health Centre (DCHC) is a registered charitable organization providing a variety of free, community programs and services including:

  • Health promotion and wellness programs
  • Primary care
  • Counselling and mental health
  • Diabetes education
  • Hepatitis C screening
  • Treatment support, education and outreach
  • Geriatric assessment & intervention
  • Young parent support
  • Youth programs
  • Indigenous programs
  • Community development programs
  • Fundraising events which include developing charitable partnerships/sponsorships to fund programs.

Locations and Services

Durham CHC has a growing team of interdisciplinary health care providers, family physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, counsellors (including social workers and psychotherapists, all under one roof. Durham CHC has locations in Pickering and Oshawa.

Brock Community Health Centre

Brock Community Health Care (CHC) serves residents of Brock Township and surrounding areas. To become a primary care client, drop by one of our sites to complete a client registration form.
